Miko Bela (1843-1912)
Miko Bela is the first report of physics in Hungarian, who discovered bauxite in Bihor. He graduated from Štiavnica (mining engineer) and after years of apprenticeship began teaching chemistry and physics. In 1872 he starts working in the mining administration in Baia Mare, where he leads the laboratory of chemical analysis. In 1903 he draws attention to the red ore of Bihor and proves bauxite’s high quality. His paper, “Bauxitkutatásról” was one of the most important works published by mining and metallurgy magazines in 1906.
